The Council’s reluctance to react to feedback regarding the LTN’s and Road Closures is a perfect example of Bad Management.

This experimental scheme has been implemented in boroughs throughout London over the past 12 months. Many boroughs are seeing opposition from the public and have reversed the road closures. However, the local authority in Islington seems to feel it is above the feedback from the people they represent. Last summer, we saw public protests on the streets outside the Town Hall and extensive online communities raising complaints that their concerns were either being unheard or ignored.

The Islington Conservative Federation have worked with the community to attain thousands of signatures asking the Council to have a 15-minute balanced debate on whether these Road Closures should be reversed and have asked for an independent review to be held.

This debate is scheduled for Thursday the 25th of February during the full council meeting. It is an opportunity for the Council to show humility and openness to the concerns and needs the people of Islington have voiced.

One of the most worrying complaints raised is the impact the Road Closures have had on the elderly, people with low mobility and carers trying to reach their clients. A society is measured by how it treats the most vulnerable, are we confident we are doing the best we can for all.

It is with bated breath we wait to see if the Council will give a fair and balanced review of the scheme, or if they steamroll ahead with arrogance and inconsideration for the genuine concerns raised by people throughout the borough
